I am an American woman who used to be a majorette in high school in the States. I was the "featured twirler" for four years with the marching band, performing at football games, twirling not just one baton, but two batons, flag batons, and fire batons. We marched in various parades, both locally in North Carolina (where I am from) and in places across the country, including the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day parade and at Disneyworld in Florida! We also competed in band competitions across the state, and won numerous awards for first place in various categories (including best baton twirler).
While I was at university I taught girls baton twirling at a local dance school for two years, teaching them the basics and a routine which they performed at their end of year recital. I found this extremely rewarding and the young girls seemed thrilled to learn this exciting skill and wear those sparkly sequined outfits too!
I have also trained in classical ballet for over 13 years, and danced in a variety of performances, including "The Nutcracker Suite" for a few Christmas seasons.
I now live in Urmston, Manchester (love brought me across that big pond, by the way...), and am happily settled here and want to pass on my skills to the next generation in the area. Although I will mostly focus on teaching the "dance twirl" style of baton twirling which I am more accustomed to, I will aim to enter the troupe (once they are up for it), in competitions both regionally and nationally, which of course will have their own British rules and regulations. I have a full CRB disclosure.
I hope to bring a smile to lots of people's faces and give something enjoyable and rewarding back to the community, as I am running this on a purely voluntary/non-profit basis.
